Ghost in the Shell tells the story of a man obsessed with devastating perfection. A man so focused on every detail that he missed everything that was important. A man who was destroyed by love. Or saved by love. It depends on your point of view. The successful creative duo Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis have teamed up again and, after the Oscar-winning Only Blood, have created another film that will be remembered.

Having a dress by designer Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) meant the most in the dynamic era of resurgent post-war London. A lady had to have enough money, the right pedigree and the right upbringing to go to a party in his models, which were always unique. But the status of genius took its toll in the form of Woodcock's total emotional emptiness. Detached from the reality of everyday life, as his sister (Lesley Manville) took care of everything practical, he put all women on the same level as dressmakers' maids. Although he always had a lover or muse at hand, all he had to do was butter his toast a little too loudly at breakfast in the morning and she would be out of his life. When Reynolds discovered shy waitress Alma (Vicky Krieps) in a café in a remote port town and decided to offer her a currently vacant seat by his side, he had no idea what he was playing with. This seemingly harmless submissive creature quickly understood the rules of the game and decided to actively fight to avoid ending up like her predecessor. The situation is made easier for her by the fact that Reynolds has fallen in love with her. However, the onslaught of emotions began to have a very negative impact on his work, and the artist's practical sister therefore decided to take decisive action.

“Reynolds is completely selfish, self-confident, self-assured, obsessed with himself and his work,” the director describes his hero. “He's a guy who's ready to be derailed.
